BETTY M. VEEN
BETTY M. VEEN, 71, of Houston, died Wednesday morning, April 18, 2001, following a courageous battle with cancer, at Memorial-Hermann Memorial City Hospital. Mrs. Veen was born in Sheveport, Louisiana on April 8, 1930, to Robert Harvey [sic Harvey William] McCarty and Mary Whitehead McCarty. She graduated from Byrd High School in Sheveport and attended Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas. Betty worked for Corum Production and Mosbacher Energy as a Landman. Betty was an intelligent business women who inspired those around her. She was an avid bridge player and her family was extremely important to her, especially her grandson Ben Veen. Betty was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Mrs. Veen was a member of Houston Association of Division Order Analyst, Houston Petroleum Landman Association, National Association of Division Order Analyst and National Association of Petroleum Landman.
Mrs. Veen was preceded in death by her father, Robert Harvey [sic Harvey William] McCarty and the father of her children, Frederick George Veen. Betty is survived by her mother, Mary W. McCarty; 2 daughters, Vivienne E. Veen and Kathy Veen; a brother and sister in law, Robert and Nina McCarty; a grandson, Frederick Benjamin (Ben) Veen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M., Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway at Eldridge. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 22, 2001, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 1515 Hillendahl, with the Rev. David Schultz officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Oaks Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Ben Veen, Bo McCarty, Sean McCarty, Brent McCarty, Jack Miller, Phil Cook and Bill Leonard. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to the Charity of your choice.
