Betty Gates

Graveside services for Betty May Gates, 71, Canton, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at Tarver Cemetery with Bobby Warren officiating, under direction of Allan Fuller Funeral Home, Wills Point.

Mrs. Gates died June 23, 2005, at her residence.

She was born June 21, 1934, in Roscoe. She grew up in the Pleasant Grove and Oak Cliff areas of Dallas. She was a resident of Seagoville prior to moving to Canton in 1986. She worked as an accountant. She was of Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Ray Hawthorne.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Charles R. Gates, Canton; son, Larry Gates, Piano; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Shelby Bishop, Oklahoma City, Okla.; mother, Tennie Mae Hawthorne, Wills Point; brothers, Bill Hawthorne, Fort Worth, Bobby Hawthorne, and Ricky Hawthorne, both of Terrell; sister, Paula Susan Sweeney, Terrell; and grandchildren, Leslie Bishop, Hayley Bishop, Lindsey Gates, Ashley Gates and Andrea Gates.
