Betty Byrd Voorhies
VOORHIES, BETTY BYRD A beloved mother, grandmother and friend, she passed away at 7:51 a.m. Sunday, May 30, 2004, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. Betty was 76 years old, a native and former resident of Gloster, Miss., and a resident of Baton Rouge for 64 years. She retired from South Central Bell with more than 30 years of service.
She is survived by a daughter, Shelia Voorhies McNemar; son, Ralph Paul Voorhies Jr.; son-in-law, Randy McNemar; daughter-in-law, Roxane Sims Voorhies; and six grandchildren, Stephanie and Monica McNemar, Megan, Alana, Ralph Paul "Trey" III and Trevor Voorhies.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Paul Voorhies Sr.; parents, Katie Bell and Wallace Byrd; sisters, Jency Reynolds, Helen Hinton and Amelia Calloway; and brothers, Rodney and Verrell Byrd.
She was an active member of Court of St. Francis of Assisi 1915 of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, vice queen mother of the Chapeaux Rougettes chapter of the Red Hat Society and the Telephone Pioneers of America. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with recitation of the rosary at 6:30 p.m., and 10 a.m. to 1:35 p.m. Wednesday. Religious service at St. Patrick's Catholic Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Martin. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
