Bill Cater
Graveside services for Bill Cater, 87, of Burke, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday in the Ryan Chapel Cemetery in Diboll with Rev. Bobby Ryan officiating.
Mr. Cater was born December 17, 1915, in Angelina County, Texas, the son of Vienna (Metlock) and Jim Cater. He died Thursday, December 11, 2003, in a Lufkin hospital.
Mr. Cater was retired from Lufkin Industries, following 35 years of service. He was a Charter Member of Machinist Local No. 587. Mr. Cater had resided in Lufkin and Burke most of his life.
Survivors include his son, Jim Cater of Crockett; grandchildren and spouses, Sherry and Steve Tutt of Central, Jerri and Robert Turner of Burke, Angela and Jack Porter of Kodiak, Alaska, Johna and Mike Barnett, Billy and Cheryl Israel, all of Pasadena, Chris and Julia Swallows of Lufkin; son-in-law, John Israel of Pasadena; eleven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister-in-law, Uba Lee Davis of Burke; niece, Ruthie Powell of Lufkin; nephew, Willie Fisher; special friends, Ken Porter of Crockett, Nathan ``Little Boy'' Battenfield of New Caney; as well as numerous other relatives.
Mr. Cater was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Maxine Elizabeth McCarty Cater, on May 18, 2003; daughter, Linda Lou Israel, on April 27, 1997; son, Billy Mack Cater, in 1939; brothers, Jim Cater, Robert Cater and Alex Cater; and sisters, Viola and Ruth.
