Bill Weaver
LAMESA (Special) Services for Bill Weaver, 90, of Lamesa will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Don Stribling officiating.
Entombment will be in Resthaven Mausoleum at 10 a.m. Wednesday under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.
He died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at his home.
He was born Nov. 18, 1909, in Gordon. He married Elwanda Gilbert Calhoun on Aug. 21, 1992, in Honolulu. He was a farmer and a gin owner. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He moved to Dawson County in 1919. He co-owned Weaver Gin Company for 35 years. He served on the Airport Board for several years. He was past president of Plains Cotton Ginners Association, Texas Independent Ginners Association, Texas Ginners Association and other organizations. He received a Lifetime Member Award from the Texas Independent Ginners group in 1979 and was named Cotton Ginner of the Year by the Texas Cotton Ginners. In 1978, he was named Mr. Cotton by Lamesa Cotton Growers. In 1984, he was given the Distinguished Service Award by the Texas Independent Cotton Ginners Association. He was a member of National Cotton Council for 11 years. He was a member of Texas Ginners Association and First Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder.
Survivors include his wife; and two stepgrandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to a favorite charity that will benefit Lamesa and Dawson County citizens.
