Billy C. Hayes
Billy C. Hayes, age 78, of Northport, died Dec. 26, 2010, at home. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in West Blocton with Andy Rice and Milton Simpson officiating and Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Lillie Hayes; and parents-in-law, Ed and Odell Beasley.
Survivors include his wife, Vera Elizebeth Hayes of Northport; a daughter, Kay Watson of Northport; a son, Ken Hayes of Northport; two sisters, Betty Tillery and Peggy Rice, both of Woodstock; and grandchildren, J.C. Hayes, Allison Watson, and Adam Watson, all of Northport.
He was an honorable man who loved his wife and family. He enjoyed spending time with his children and especially his grandchildren.
He had a kind word and a helping hand for those who needed it. His many friends and neighbors knew they could count on “Mr. Bill.”
Although he's gone now from this world, he will live forever in our hearts. We can't say goodbye to him, only, “See you later, Pop.”
Honorary pallbearers are friends and neighbors of Lake Hills Drive, his coffee-drinking buddies from Waffle House, Charles and Johnny Wyatt, Billy Isom, and Ronnie Williamsom.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to American Diabetic Association.
