Bobbie Louise Shows Whitten
January 10, 1931 - June 11, 2016

Bobbie Louise Shows Whitten, 85, of Ballinger passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2016 in Odessa, Texas. A celebration of her life will begin at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland. Officiating the service will be Myron Halford of the Cowboy Church in Ballinger, Texas.

Bobbie was born on January 10, 1931 in Wayne County, Mississippi to Martin Grey and Annie Lou Shows. Bobbie was raised in Mississippi with two brothers and four sisters. She was married to Oza for more than 45 years where they enjoyed moving around from location to location for his job in the oilfield with Dawson Geophysical. They finally settled down in Midland in 1967 and made a home for their family. Bobbie only gave birth to four children but she was a mother to many more.

Her passion in life was cooking and she was one of the best in town, as her son will attest to! In her early years she worked as a waitress at Blue Star Inn and Agnes's Drive In. She later owned Billie's Café in the early 80's and then owned the coffee shops in the Arco Building, the Wilco Building and Paragon Building, all in downtown Midland where she got to feed so many wonderful people throughout town on a daily basis. Her favorite part of the year was the holidays where she loved making candy with her grandchildren and cooking meals with and for her family.

She was very involved with the Band Boosters at Midland High School when her children were there. She was also involved as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the VFW in Odessa, Texas. She had a love for people and never met a stranger. She was a peacemaker but had a cantankerous spirit! Bobbie enjoyed watching baseball and football on the TV and would root for any team the Dallas Cowboys were playing, just to get a rise out of those around her!

Bobbie loved her GOD and listened to gospel music and the Gaither's often. You could hear her humming hymns most any day if you listened close enough. She was a member of the Cowboy Church in Ballinger, Texas where just a few weeks prior to her passing she was baptized as a reconfirmation of faith.

She is survived by her children, Murlin Whitten of San Antonio, Texas, Dorothy and Mike Reed of Midland, Texas; grandchildren, Michael and Stephanie Reed of Lubbock, Texas, Katie Ramsey of Round Rock, Texas and Edgar and Corrie Reed of Abilene, Texas; great-grandchildren, Gabby, Logan, Jacob, Ethan, Cade and Fallon; three sisters, Melba Farris, Ruth Evans and Katie Ware; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Oza Whitten, son, Oza Whitten, Jr., daughter, Katie Whitten, her mother, father, two brothers and one sister.

Our family would like to express their gratitude to the paramedics, emergency room staff and CCU staff at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas for their kind, courteous and professional care of our mother and treatment of our entire family during this difficult time.
