Brawton Crain Dies Following Illness

Brawton Crain, 48 years old, died at 10 o'clock Friday morning in his home at 1313 Central avenue. He had been ill five months.

Born June 4, 1914, in Sikes, La., Mr. Crain had lived in Joplin three years. He had been a cook at Horseshoe cafe and Connor hotel and his last employment was as a cook at Eagle-Picher cafeteria. He was a member of the Baptist church.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Gladys Crain; four brothers, J. M. Crain and Lamar Crain of Shreveport, La., Charles Crain of Dodson, La., and B. Crain of Atlanta, Ga.; four sisters, Mrs. A. M. Tyler, Mrs. John Ingoff and Mrs. Kay Dark of Shreveport, and Mrs. Sylvester Garr of Dodson.

The body will remain at Steve Parker mortuary until 10 o'clock this morning, when it will be sent to Shreveport, La., for services and burial.

Final Rites For Brawton Crain At Harmony Grove

Funeral services for Brawton Crain, 18 [sic 48], of Joplin, Mo., were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Harmony Grove Baptist Church near Sikes with the Rev. C. C. Martin, pastor of the Laurel Heights Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Crain, a native of Gaars Mill, died Friday in Joplin, Mo., after a long illness.

In addition to his widow, Mrs. Gladys Russell Crain, he is survived by four brothers, C. H. Crain of Winnfield, B. M. Crain of Atlanta, Ga., John M. Crain and Lamar Crain, both of Shreveport; four sisters, Mrs. S. H. Gaar of Dodson, and Mrs. P. T. Dark, Mrs. J. D. Ingouf, and Mrs. A. M. Tyler, all of Shreveport.

Nephews acted as pallbearers: Paul Vayne Gaar, Dudley and George Crain, Willie Verne Dark, Darwin and Glen Crain.
