Burns J. Grivet
June 25, 1938 - August 3, 2003

Funeral services for Burns J. Grivet of Fort Necessity, Louisiana, were held Wednesday, August 6, 2003 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home in Winnsboro with the Reverend Howard B. Childs officiating.

Mr. Grivet, the only son born to Joseph and Belva Grivet, passed away at the North Monroe Hospital following a brief illness. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a master craftsman.

On August 17, 1957, Burns took Glenda Sue Ross as his bride; thus, began the journey of a lifetime loving this beautifully spirited woman. Early in their marriage the happy couple lived in Utah; however, they soon returned to Fort Necessity to make their permanent home and raise their children, Tony King and Rhonda Gail.

An extremely gifted artisan, craftsman, and master carpenter, Burns was a man who loved and appreciated beauty; thus, he became a wood carving artist. Family members and friends throughout the area proudly display his wonderfully detailed wooden gifts.

Burns enjoyed many interests. A collector of Native American artifacts, Burns was often seen in the fields around his home and along Boeuf River after a down pour of rain scouting for and collecting arrow heads. Many of these treasures found their way into the art projects he created.

An avid water skier, he taught his children to ski. Determined to provide the best for them, he crafted their perfectly balanced skis. A natural born chef, Burns loved to cook and would deliver his home prepared meals when someone was ill or when there was a death in the community. He faithfully delivered the parish and Sunday papers to everyone along Ross Road.

Burns was preceded in death by his parents, Belva and Joseph Grivet; however, he leaves a legacy of love in his surviving family: his wife of 46 years, Glenda Sue Ross Grivet; his children, Rhonda Gail Sharp and husband, William G. Sharp, Jr. of Fort Necessity; Tony King Grivet of Pollock, Louisiana; grandchildren: William G. “Trey” and Donna Kay Sharp of Jigger, Louisiana; Jessica Mishelle Sharp of Winnsboro, Louisiana; Kasey Jo Sharp of Jigger, Louisiana; and Brittney Page Grivet of Pollock, Louisiana; his great grandchildren: Natalie Grace and Heather Leann; his sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Roy Mastroantonio of Pueblo, Colorado. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as a host of friends and acquaintances.

Pallbearers are Jeff Cassles, James Felton Moore, Jeffery Brooks Moore, Eddie Ray Bryan, Mike Bryan and Steve Sellers Moore. Honorary pallbearers are Paul Handlin, Mike Wiggers, Jimbo Colvin and Bobby Parker.
