Calpurnia Hargrave ``Cal'' Meredith
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 13, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church for Calpurnia ``Cal'' Hargrave Meredith, 76, who died Friday, March 10, 2006 at 1:00 a.m. at St. James Place Nursing Home in Baton Rouge.
Fr. David Broussard will officiate for the services. Burial will be in Hanks Cemetery. The family requests visiting hours be observed Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Monday from 8:00 a.m. to service time. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Carolyn Hargrave; nieces and nephews, Aleah Hargrave, Michel Hargrave, Debra and James Hanvy, Kathy and Paul Meredith, David and Kathy Meredith; seven great nieces and nephews; godchildren, Marsha Houtz and Bryan Istre.
She enjoyed the friendship and company of many close relatives and friends, especially Lillian Istre, Earleen and Jerry Ruonacaara, Lynnette Lacombe, Amanda Istre, Cedric Istre, Janice LeJeune, Una Mae Hargrave, Virginia Cormier, Vi and Don Sullivan and Vera Mire.
Mrs. Meredith was born April 29, 1929 in Acadia Parish to Philip Hargrave and Flavie Thibodeaux Hargrave, graduated from Morse High School in 1946 and married January 8, 1949 in Mermentau, Louisiana to Hosea Basil Meredith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brother Lee Hargrave.
She had a long career in the insurance business, including over twenty years as Office Manager of Al Houtz Agency in Houma. She loved to travel and fly her airplane, was an early and long time member of the Louisiana Chapter of the Ninety-Nines, an International Organization of women pilots, was a member of the Terrebonne Parish Flying Posse, a member of the American Business Women's Association in Houma and Baton Rouge and a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Baton Rouge.
The family wishes to express special appreciation to Sharon Ballard for her friendship and care for over twenty years and to the nursing staffs of St. James Place ME and Hospice of Baton Rouge for their loving care for the past four months during her struggle with cancer.
Pallbearers will be Cedric Istre, August Hargrave, Floyd Hargrave, Darrell Sullivan, Kyle Guilbeau, Oran Richard and Bryan Istre.
