Calvin Leland Lofton, Sr.
Calvin Leland Lofton, Sr., 70, of Lufkin, was born May 1, 1936, in Good Pine, Louisiana, the son of the late Myra Josephine (Beavers) and Bill William Lofton. He passed away Thursday, March 1, 2007, at his residence. Mr. Lofton retired from Temple Inland in 1994, following more than 16 years of employment. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and loved to paint. Mr. Lofton was the jokester of the family, and loved to make people laugh. He also enjoyed his "rabbit hunting" trips with his buddies. He was a member of McKindree Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mary Alice Lofton of Lufkin; daughter, Alice Marie Lofton of Lufkin; son, Calvin Leland Lofton, Jr. of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Leona Gay and Ricky Jaramillo of Bryan; sister and brother-in-law, Nell Roy and Lonnie Cotton of Louisiana; brother, Tom Allen Lofton of Houston; grandchildren, Lisa Rowland and Calvin James Rowland, both of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lofton was preceded in death by his twin brother, Alvin Leon Lofton; and sisters, Hattie Samson [sic Sanson], Elsie Keene, Jessie Keene and Loye Cotton [sic Cotten].
Pallbearers will be Jerome Lair, Richard Nash, Johnny Tenney, Kevin Doss, Tad Titlow and Travis Hairston. Services for Mr. Lofton will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Futch officiating. Interment will follow in the McKindree Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday evening at Gipson Funeral Home. Gipson Funeral Home; Joni Johnson, director.
