Robert and Beulah (Denum) Gipson welcomed a beautiful baby boy, Carl, on January 24, 1941, who later was nicknamed “Spanky.” He was a devoted and loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Spanky attended Lufkin schools in his younger years, where he enjoyed rodeoing and football, and graduated in 1958. He lived in Lufkin all his life, and retired from the Paper Mill after serving 30 plus years. All his adult life, Spanky was an avid horseman, having owned some of the finest working and trail horses in the county. He loved going on trail rides and made many friends along the way. He was a master bar-b-quer and entertained and fed many friends. Spanky and his wife of 30 years, Glenda, loved to travel with friends, and enjoyed many trips together. Spanky will be dearly missed, never forgotten, and loved to time indefinite.
Spanky is survived by his loving wife, Glenda Gipson of Lufkin; son, Chip Renfro and his wonderful son, Colton, both of Hudson; son, Jeff Cox and his two beautiful children, Katy and Ben, all of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Marni Jacobs and their precious son, Aden, all of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; daughter, Teresa Cox and her daughter, Candice Sitze, his first grandchild, and her daughter, the joy of his life, Jessica, all of Lufkin; sister, Linda Daughenbaugh of Lake Charles, Louisiana; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Glenn Green of Lufkin, whom he helped care for; brother-in-law, Jimmy Hodges of Lufkin; uncle, Alvie Gipson of Alice; and too many friends to mention.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
