Carl Wayne Adkison Sr.
Carl Wayne Adkison, 72, of Nacogdoches, passed away March 14, 2007, in Houston. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2007, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel. Bro. Sonny Scarborough of Lilly Grove Baptist Church will be officiating, assisted by the, associate pastor, Bro. Paul McLain. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery of Timpson, Texas.
Born November 13, 1934, in Shelby County, Texas, he was the son of Elzie Adkison and Dollie Hendricks Adkison. Mr. Adkison was an active member of Lilly Grove Baptist Church and loved gospel singing. He had been a retail manager for a grocery business and a lot of people knew him from Wal-Mart as a greeter. He had been a resident of Nacogdoches for the last 11 years, having moved here from Houston. He was known around here as Santa Claus. He encouraged people he knew and met to be organ donors, having been a heart recipient in 1995 himself.
Mr. Adkison is survived by his daughter, Carla Espinosa and husband, Jorge, of Houston; son, Carl Adkison Jr. and wife, Emily, of Van, Texas; granddaughter, Austyn Adkison and grandson, Luke Adkison, both of Van, Texas; brothers, Joe Adkison of Alvin, Texas, Bobby Adkison of Divide, Colo., and Charles Adkison of Houston; sisters, Bernice Hudman of Timpson, Lavillion Sue Cox of Nacogdoches and Barbara Lindsey of Stafford, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Maxie Adkison.
Pallbearers will be Mike Adkison, Preston Adkison, Hershal Lindsey, Russell Adkison, Chris Hudman and Hollis Weatherly.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
