Girl Killed By Train
McCLURE -- An 18-year-old Napoleon girl was killed at 9:15 a.m. Sunday when the car in which she was riding was struck by a Nickel Plate freight train.
The dead girl was identified at Carol Knipp, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Laban Knipp. She was pronounced dead on arrival at Heller Memorial Hospital in Napoleon.
Lynett Daignault, 17, also of Napoleon, was the driver of the accident car. She is in the same hospital with her condition listed as critical.
According to Henry County deputies, the auto was headed east on U.S. 6 and turned west onto Ohio 65 at McClure.
The accident happened at McClure crossing of the Nickel Plate railroad.
Edlie Mandery, engineer of the freight train, said he saw the car and blew his whistle, but that the auto drove in front of the train.
According to investigating sheriff's deputies, the McClure crossing is well-marked with flasher warning lights.
The accident is still under investigation.

Head-on, Train-Car Wrecks Take Five Henry County Lives
A daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Knipp, Carol Marie, was born in Louisiana. Her father is owner of the Meca Plastics factory, Napoleon. The family formerly spent only the summers here and the winters in Louisiana, but had remained for the school term this year.
She was a member of St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church, near Holgate, and attended Napoleon High School.
Survivors: Parents, sisters, Peggy, Judy and Vicy, brothers, John and Charley, at home; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Clara Knipp, near Holgate, and maternal grandfather, Ellis Eldridge, Winnsboro, La.
Services: 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, St. John's E. and R. Church. The Rev. H. A. Meussling, pastor. Burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call at Wesche funeral home.
