Mrs. Harris, Civic, Church Leader Dies
Mrs. Cassa Lou Harris, president of the United Church Women of Mobile and an active worker in the Presbyterian Church died Sunday night at a local hospital.
Funeral services for Mrs. Harris, a resident of the Port City for the past 27 years, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday from the Government Street Presbyterian Church with interment in Pine Crest Cemetery. Radney Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A native of Winnfield, La., Mrs. Harris was very active in the Joe Jefferson Players having served as president in 1952-53.
She was president of the Women of the Church of Government Street Presbyterian Church; president of United Church Women of Mobile, 1964-65; chairman of Christian World Relations for United Christian Women of Mobile, 1962-63; vice president of United Christian Women, and vice president of the Mobile Federation of Christian Church, 1964-65.
Mrs. Harris was also very active in civic groups and worked with the Red Cross, the YMCA and Goodwill Industries.
In 1966 she made a nine-week tour of Africa as a representative of the United Presbyterian Church of America.
A television personality in the early days of TV in Mobile, she had her own television and radio programs on WALA.
She is survived by two sons, N. P. Harris of Atlanta, Ga., and Charles P. Harris of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two brothers, Lt. Col. J. G. McDonald of Florida and A. L. McDonald of Jena, La.

Former Cassa L. McDonald Dies In Mobile, Ala.
News came to Winnfield this week of the death of Mrs. Cassa Lou McDonald Harris
in Mobile, Ala., where she had been residing for the past 27 years. She was a
native of Winnfield and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. McDonald.
Mrs. Harris was prominently known in Mobile for her social, civic, and religious
activities. In 1969, she made a nine week tour of Africa as a representative of
the United Presbyterian Church of America.
A television personality in the early days of TV in Mobile, Mrs. Harris had her
own television program. She taught speech and English at Bolton High School in
Alexandria, before going to Mobile, and she also taught in Winnfield for six
years.
She is survived by two sons, one of Atlanta, Ga., and one of St. Petersburg,
Fla.; two brothers, Lt. Col. J. G. McDonald, Florida, and A. L. McDonald, Jena,
and other relatives.
