Charles Albert Joyner
Charles A. Joyner also known as “Charlie” was born September 2, 1950 to John and Carolyn (Rivet) Joyner in Shreveport, LA. He was the second of four children born to the couple.
In 1957, Charlie, his brothers Butch, Gary and mom left Louisiana for California where John had taken a Job as a School Teacher in West Point, California. The family spent many years in West Point, even welcoming their youngest, Cheryl into the family there. Charlie spent his life doing things his way. He began his working life with Calaveras Cement, up until they closed the plant in the early 1980's.
He took a short leave from Calaveras Cement to join the US Air Force. He had many great experiences in the Air Force including his time in Okinawa, Japan where he taught children how to play softball and drove them to school and home again in a school bus. Charlie always loved working with Children, much like his dad! Charlie loved being in the Military and was very proud of his service to our country. He couldn't believe that he could play with all those guns and explosives as part of his duties!
Upon the closure of Calaveras Cement Plant, he went to work for Blue Arc Motorcycle working on Motorcycles! This was truly his life's passion. He was a “motorhead” through and through!! He could tear down a motor and rebuild it with his eyes closed as many of his friends say.
Charlie was a kind soul with a contagious laugh and a beaming smile that made everyone feel at ease. He never met someone who didn't like him. He spent many of his later years in New York with his wife Rosee taking care of her family as they got older in years and saw failing health.
In December of 2011, Charlie and Rosee moved back to West Point, California to be near their daughter, Stacie (Joyner) Link, her husband Buddy and their Grandson, Ryan. Charlie loved being back in California and was never as happy to be close to family as he was in his final years!
Charlie was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, (Rosee) RoseMary (Kubilis) Joyner of New York. He was also preceded by his parents, John and Carolyn as well as his older brother James “Butch” Joyner in 2015.
He is survived by his daughter, Stacie Joyner-Link, her husband Buddy and his Grandson, Ryan as well as his younger brother, Gary, his wife Nancy and their children, John, Lynette and Lisa and their children, as well as his younger sister Cheryl, her husband Mike, as well as his sister-in-law, Stacy Joyner and her two son's Mark and his wife Sarah and Matt and his wife, Misti and their 3 girls.
A Celebration of Life is being held to honor both Charlie and Rosee on Saturday March 26, 2016 from 11-3 at the American Legion Post 108 in Sutter Creek.
