Charles R. Carter
Charles R. Carter, 75, of Port Arthur, died Oct. 16, 2003, at his residence.
Visitation is 6 to 8 tonight at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves, Texas. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Oak Bluff Memorial Park with Masonic Graveside Rites.
Mr. Carter was born Dec. 11, 1927, in Gillsburg. He was the son of Jim Carter and Pearl Anders.
He lived in the Port Arthur area for over 50 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the end of World War II in the Phillipines and the Korean Conflict. He retired from Gulf Oil Co. as a tinsmith after 35 years of service. He was a member of North End Baptist Church in Port Arthur, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No.797 and the Groves Masonic Lodge No. 1315.
Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Dale Carter.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Donny and Debbie Carter of Port Arthur, and Douglas and Gena Carter, and Darryl and Kimberly Carter, all of Nederland, Texas; one sister, Elaine Schilling of Bogalusa, La.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
