Col. Charles L. [sic C.] Segrist, Retired AF Officer

Charles L. [sic C.] Segrist, 69, an Air Force colonel who was assistant chief of staff of the Air Force Systems Command at Andrews Air Force Base when he retired in 1967, died of a lung ailment Nov. 20 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

Col. Segrist, who had lived in Alexandria since 1961, was born in Harrisonburg, La. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1937. He earned a master's degree in industrial management at Columbia University in 1950 and a master's degree in real estate and urban planning at American University in 1974.

When he left West Point, Col. Segrist was commissioned in the old Army Air Corps. He opted to join the Air Force when it became a separate service in 1947. From 1954 to 1956, he was director of logistics, procurement and industrial planning for Far East Air Force operations in Japan. His later career was in weapons systems procurement and planning.

Col. Segrist held three Legions of Merit and two Air Force Commendation Medals.

After retiring from the military, he was a part-time real estate agent. He was active in the Republican Party in Alexandria.

Survivors include his wife, the former Helen Haberstroh, of Alexandria; three children, Charles C. Jr. and Carolyn Bogle, both of Alexandria, and Sherry Sours of Fairfax; a brother, Silas S., of Venice, Fla., and four grandchildren.
