Charles Measel
WARREN -- Charles D. ``Hoot'' Measel, 88, of Warren died Tuesday at Arkansas Heart Hospital at Little Rock.
He was born Aug. 20, 1918, at Hilo, a son of the late William Franklin Measel and Willie Gorman Measel.
He served in the Army during World War II.
He earned a bachelor of science degree from Arkansas A&M (now the University of Arkansas at Monticello) and a master's degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
He was retired, having worked 38 years as a coach, educator and administrator at the Vick, Hermitage, Watson, Wilmar, Star City, Grady and Crossett school systems.
He was a member of Hermitage Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Kent Measel of Moro Bay; two daughters, Nenda Burchfield of Crossett and Debbie Jones of West Monroe, La.; one brother, Jerry Measel of Benton; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Bettye K. Measel, whom he married on Sept. 11, 1948, and who died on Jan. 29, 1992; four brothers, Olee Measel, J.B. Measel, John Measel and Alonzo Measel; and two sisters, Adah Arthur and Dorothy Taylor.
Graveside services with military honors will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Adams Singer Cemetery near Warren. Arrangements are by Frazer's Funeral Home at Warren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
