Charles Earl Hughes, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 4, 2013 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marshall for Mr. Charles Earl Hughes, Jr., 90, of Waskom, with Father Denzil Vithanage officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Cemetery in Waskom. Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. on Sunday, March 3rd at the Downs Funeral Home followed by rosary at 7 p.m. Mr. Hughes passed away at his residence in Waskom.
Charles Earl Hughes, Jr. was born in Winnfield, Louisiana to Charles Earl Hughes, Sr. and Mattie Eva Jenkins Hughes on January 11, 1923. He was a veteran of WWII and served in the European Theater in the 17th Army Field Hospital. He was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Charles retired from Arkla Gas after 35 years of service. He was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marshall, Texas. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1422 Marshall, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Louise Theresa Hughes, his brothers John Edward Hughes of Jonesboro LA, and William Joseph Hughes of Baton Rouge LA.
Charles is survived by his five children: Barbara Hughes of Waskom, Carolyn Louise Hughes of Ft Worth TX, Charles Edward Hughes and wife Jada of Elysian Fields TX, Sandra Lynn Hughes Rudd of Waskom TX, Paul Earl Hughes and wife Barbara of Spring Branch TX, his grandchildren: Mark Ratcliff, Dr. Mathew Ratcliff, Anne Ratcliff Griffin, Chris Hughes, Lisa Hughes Swanson, Teresa Diane Hughes, Caroline Hughes, and Craig Hughes, his great grandchildren: Cody Griffin, Jaxon Ratcliff and Carter Hughes.
Pallbearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus Council #1422
