Charles L. McCall
(May 7, 1922 - March 5, 2006)

Shreveport, LA - Memorial services for Mr. Charles Louis McCall will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Osborn Funeral Home with Reverend Paul Martin officiating. Visitation will follow the service at Osborn. Interment will be a private family graveside service. Charlie, a lifelong resident of Shreveport was born May 7, 1922, the son of Ree DeBlieux and Hugh S. McCall, and passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2006, in Shreveport, after a long illness. He attended Shreveport elementary schools, and graduated from C. E. Byrd High School in 1938; attended Centenary College and later transferred and graduated from the University of Oklahoma. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity.

Charlie served in the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II as a 1st Lieutenant in the South Pacific, and he participated in the invasion of Okinawa. He had served as Sunday School Superintendent and a member of the Vestry at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Charlie was an avid lover of mankind, animals and creatures. Upon his retirement from the warehouse and transfer business, he studied sign language to help the hearing impaired. He also studied and taught reading skills to those who had never learned to read. He treated and healed everything from crippled and wounded birds, dogs and cats to frogs and even a grasshopper. He once raised a newborn sparrow. Charlie will be remembered for the many lives he touched.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and only sibling, Hugh S. McCall, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Jo Treadwell McCall; his twin daughters, Beth Hilliard and husband, Jim, of Dallas, Texas; Ree Witt and husband, Carl of, Tyler, Texas; his son, Dr. Charles McCall, Jr. and wife, Wanda, of Jackson, Tennessee; his grandchildren, Richard Loftin and wife, Alisha; Kelly Smith and husband, Mike; Sacha Johnson and husband, Jesse; Ree Lowery and husband, Monte; Kathryn Spencer and husband, Brandon; and John Goldberg and wife, Jennifer; seven great-grandchildren; numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his constant companion, his 14 year old Shih Tzu, Annie.

The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and especially, Dr. Robert Massingill of Christus Schumpert Highland Hospital, and the staff of Grace Home for the excellent and loving care given to Charlie.
