Urania town alderman died, services held
Charles Noel Cox, 77, an alderman in the Town of Urania for the past 15 years,
died early Monday, June 2, 1997, at Hardtner Medical Center in Urania.
Cox was first elected to the Urania Town Council in 1982 and has served
continuously since that time.
He was a retired laborer in the plywood industry and served as an alderman in
the Town of Urania for over 15 years.
Cox was a veteran of World War II where he served in the Air Force Signal Corps.
He was born September 8, 1919, in Lake Comorant, Ms. to the union of Calvin and Hazel Simmons Cox.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, at the chapel of Riser and Son
Funeral Home in Olla with Revs. James Simons and E. R. Johnson officiating.
Interment followed in the Hebron Cemetery near Sikes under direction of Riser
and Son, Olla.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Richard Cox of Sikes and Clyde Dale Cox of
Urania; one daughter, Nelline Adams of Sikes; two sisters, Janette Pepper of
Walls, Ms., and Lillian Prysock of Horn Lake, Ms.; nine grandchildren and one
great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Alton McNaughton, Carl Vickers, Junion Powers, Gary Ivy, Gary
Foshee, Jimmie Pepper and Doyle Pepper.
