Charles Ray Flynt
Charles Ray Flynt, born May 22, 1926, in Laurel, Ms., died Thursday, March 3, 2011, in University Medical Center in Jackson, MS.
Charles Ray attended Laurel City Schools and graduated from George S. Gardner High School in May, 1944. He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII aboard U.S.S. Chehalis, an aviation gasoline tanker. He attended Jones County Junior College for two years and University of Southern Mississippi until his employment with the U.S. Postal Service. He retired as a Rural Mail Carrier with the U.S. Postal Service after 35 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Laurel, the V.F.W., the American Legion and enjoyed golfing at the Dixie Golf Club.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Overstreet Flynt; two daughters, Sheryl and husband Chris Springer of Greenbrier, AR; Jo Lynn (Jodee) and husband Dr. Jon S. Davies of Olympia, WA, the grandchildren; Shelley (Heflin) Singh of Oklahoma City, OK, Lindsey Lester of Olympia, WA, James Lester of Olympia, WA, Jared Charles Gogek of Chicago, IL, Flynt Evyn Davies, Blake Bonham Davies and Kai McDaniel Davies of Olympia, WA; one brother, Albert Roy Flynt of Clinton, MS and a sister; Jerolene Handfield of Florance, MS.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Darling Flynt of Jackson, MS and his mother Mamie Musgrove Sumrall of Laurel, MS. He is also survived by three great grandchildren Jasmine Singh, Aman Singh and Taran Singh of Oklahoma City, OK.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Veterans Memorial Museum of Laurel (601) 428-4008 or the charity of your choice.
Visitation will be held from noon until the service to be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March, 10, 2011 with Rev. Randy Turner presiding at Memory Chapel of Laurel, which is in charge of arrangements. Internment [sic Interment] to be held at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Laurel.
