Charles R. Johnston

Funeral services for Charles R. Johnston, 60, of Winnsboro were held Saturday at the chapel of Community Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Perry officiating.

Interment followed at Harris Cemetery under the direction of Community Memorial Funeral Home.

Mr. Johnston died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002 in Richland Parish after a sudden illness. He was a resident of Franklin Parish, co-owner of former Cuave/Johnston Insurance Company, retiring after 30 years of service, and served with the United States Army.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey William and Arah Allen Johnston, brothers, Albert, Nolan, and James William Johnston, sister, Loraine Mitchell, foster parents, Ermon and Ola Riley, and father-in-law, Cullen Woodie Lee.

Survivors include his wife, Joy Johnston, Winnsboro; son, Cullen Johnston, Winnsboro; daughter, Melinda Hamm, Crossett, Ark.; sisters, Charlene Benoit, Monroe; Margie Fay Wilson, Shreveport; brothers, Buddy Johnston, West Monroe; Harvey M. Johnston, Monroe; grandchildren Kristina and Harley Hamm, both of Crossett, Ark; mother-in-law Melinda Lee Cheatwood, Winnsboro; also a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were J.W. Dean, Leon McCurley, Bobby Humble, Bobby Johnston, James Mixon, Larry Riley, Floyd Thomas and Danny Warner.

Honorary pallbearers were Lawrence Hamm and Billy Wayne Smith.
