Charles R. Staton
August 28, 1936 - November 20, 2010

Charles ``Chuck'' Staton, 74, of Diboll, was born August 28, 1936 in Wells, Texas, the son of the late Loretta (McCarty) and Milton Staton. He passed away Saturday, November 20, 2010 in a local hospital.

Mr. Staton worked in law enforcement for more than 40 years. He served in the LaGrange, Illinois police department and the Clearwater, Florida police department, was Director of Security of Mangel Bro. Stores in Houston, was Director of Security for Memorial City Shopping Center and the Spring Branch Community. He retired as Chief Deputy with the Polk County, Texas Sheriff's Department with more than 25 years of service. Mr. Staton served his country with the Army National Guard and then joined the United States Army, where he served for 3 years.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Jan Staton of Diboll; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and John Pounds of Lufkin, Dale and Kenneth Bollier of Princeton, Sarah and Able Zavalla of Lufkin, Ann and Joe Thigpen of Burke, and Irene and Jimmy Southern of Lufkin; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncle, cousins, and friends.

Mr. Staton's family wishes to extend special thanks to Mark and Tammy Jones, Betty Martin, the doctors that worked hard to solve the mystery, and the nurses, technicians, and staff at Woodland Heights ICU.

In lieu of flowers, his family would appreciate donations to the Burke Methodist Church, 124 Bluejay Street, Diboll, Texas 75941; or to Falvey Memorial United Methodist Church, 130 Rusk Avenue, Wells, Texas 75976.

Pallbearers will be Carl Harris, Steve Bollier, Billy Neal Glover, Robert Thigpen, Shane Thigpen, and Mike Barbe.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Polk County Sheriff's Department.

Services for Mr. Staton will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 22, 2010 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Bryon Lyons officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Wells.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 Sunday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
