Charles Stockett, Jr.

Charles W Stockett, Jr., 78, died at his home in Truth of Consequences, New Mexico, on Friday, June 11, 2010.

He was born December 13, 1931, in Greenwood, the son of Charles Watt Stockett and Lucy Bruce Stockett.

The family moved to Woodville where he lived to adulthood. He accepted Jesus Christ at the Woodville Baptist Church.

He joined the U. S. Navy in April, 1952, then received his Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University. He met his future bride at the Baptist Student Union at LSU, and they married in December, 1960. They had two sons, Charles “Chas,” and Samuel “Sam.”

Mr. Stockett worked at his father's farm and taught school He later went to work for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service in Eupo-ra. At this time he answered the call to attend the New Orleans Theological Seminary where he earned his Master's Degree in Theology in 1974.

While in seminary he founded a mission in Tammany Hills, La, and continued there until he graduated and the mission was established.

Two years later he ministered at the First Baptist Church in Folsom, La, where he remained for the next eight years. He then moved his ministry to the First Baptist Church in Circle, Montana, and after two years, was called to serve as pastor of the First Baptist Church in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. After eleven years he retired to Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, where he continued his ministry as a fill-in minister at the First Baptist Church.

He was an avid aviator and loved the outdoors.

Survivors include his wife, Rosemary, and two sons, Chas Stockett and Sam Stockett

A memorial service was held on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at the First Baptist Church in Truth or Consequences, with Raster Dudley Bristow officiating.

A memorial service will be held at the Woodville Baptist Church at 11 am. on Saturday, June 4, 2011, conducted by the Reverend Rob Muncy Friends are invited to attend the service.
