CHARLES WESLEY MYERS
Funeral services for Mr. Charles Wesley Myers, 69, of Enterprise, La. will be held Friday, February 13, 2009 at 2:00 PM at New Ouachita Baptist Church with Bro. Jeff Robinson, Bro Lanny Head, and Bro. Lester Johnson officiating with Keith Guice delivering the eulogy. Music will be performed by Morgan Myers, Jeremy Wiley, and Shana Johnson. Interment will follow at Harrisonburg Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home of Jonesville.
Visitation will be held at New Ouachita Baptist Church in Enterprise, La. with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 9:00 PM Thursday February 12, 2009.
Mr. Myers was born January 4, 1940 in Warren, Ark. to the union of Velma & Wesley Myers. He passed away on Febuary 10, 2009 at Franklin Parish Hospital in Winnsboro, La. after a lengthy illness. Mr. Myers was a graduate of Warren High School and attended Arkansas A & M. He served in the United States Army in the missile divison at Gardner, Kansas. He was a member of New Ouachita Baptist Church in Enterprise where he loved singing in choir. He lived in Houston, Tx and served as youth minister at Oak Forest Assembly of God Church before moving to Harrisonburg, La. in 1970 where he owned Myers Service Center for the last 37 years. He was one of the original vehicle inspection stations in Louisiana. His civic duties included serving as an aldermen for 4 years and then 4 years as Mayor of Harrisonburg, La. He served on the Catahoula Parish Police Jury for 26 years where he served as President for most of those years . He was the only Police Juror who served in two different wards in the parish. Charlie served the citizens of Catahoula Parish diligently and compassionately for all these years.
Charlie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, public servant and friend. He had a quick wit and enjoyed relating funny stories, had a great love for music, and he sang all the time. He knew the names of songs, who wrote them, who sang them, the year the song was popular, and most of the words.
He was preceded in death by his father & mother, Velma & Wesley Myers; two brothers Clayton and Chester Myers; three sisters, Jo Derks, Jean Savage, and Dorthy Derrick.
He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years Lou Sheppard Myers, one daughter Kimberly Ann and her husband Joe Cook of Harrisonburg, La., one son Charles Steven and his wife Tanee Myers of Enterprise, La., Margaret Ann and her husband David Haman of Sterlington, La., Amy Lou and her husband Clay Weems of Sterlington, La. Charles loved his grandchildren, Wes and his wife Anita Cook of Harrisonburg, La., Tyler and Morgan Myers of Enterprise, La., Anna Kate and Austin Haman of Sterlington, La. and Ella Claire Weems of Sterlington, La. Other survivors are three sisters, Estelle Bennett and her husband Bob of Warren, Ark., Charlotte Thompson of Hampton, Ark., and Pat McCrae and her husband John of Wildwood, Fl.; two brothers Leslie E. Myers and his wife Dora of Malone, Fl., and James Myers and his wife Harriett of Athens, Georgia and a host of neices [sic nieces] and nephews.
His brother-in-laws are Frank Sheppard and his wife Pat of Enterprise, La., York Sheppard and his wife Teresa of Delhi, and John Sheppard and his wife Mary of Pineville.
Pallbearers will be George Johnson, Jackie Paulk, Keith Guice, Nathan Roark, Mickie McGuffee, and Robert Sheppard.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Leo Boothe, Doyle Wiggins, Walter Krause, Joe Barber, Bennie Vault, Jr., J.D. Alexander, Russ Mason, Alden Creel, Curtis Roark, Ancel McGuffee, Jerry Eubanks, John Ed Bartmess, Earl Eisenhood, and Deacons of New Ouachita Baptist Church.
