Charles Woodrow ‘Woody’ Wilson, died February 25, 2009 at his home in Byron, GA. Visitation will be 5'8 PM, Saturday, February 28 at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb and Sunday at Adams United Methodist Church from 1PM until service at 2:00 with Rev. Charles Brister and Rev. Kenny Hart officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Wilson was born February 18, 1924 in Lincoln County to the late Henry and Nola Wilson. He attended Auburn High School. He was an award-winning farmer in Amite County where he set new precedent with his conservation techniques. He served in the Air Force as a tail-gunner in WWII. Woody Wilson was a member of Adams United Methodist Church. In his younger days, he loved to hunt and fish. Mr. Wilson was a very honest and hard working man that is highly respected by many.
Mr. Wilson is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 52 years, Flora Mae Wilson; two brothers, Earnest H. 'Doc' Wilson and E.O. Wilson; one sister, Mable Carlock; and one stepson, Gary Cooper.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey Wilson; one daughter, Kay Thornton; one son and daughter in law, Carl and Joyce Wilson; one stepdaughter, Jane Pitts; 7 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 7 step-great grandchildren; and 3 step-great, great grandchildren; a special friend of Mr. Wilson's, Rick Brister; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Wilson's family would like to offer a special 'thanks' to Mr. Wilson's nurses in GA., Dorothy, Peaches, and Netra; and also to all of the family, friends, and churches that have been praying for him.
Mr. Wilson leaves behind a host of friends who will miss him very much.
Pallbearers for Mr. Wilson will be Greg Maxwell, Meade Mathis, Clayton Johnston, Harry Wells, Jim Ratcliff, and Daniel Hall.
