Charles C. Parlin, Jr.

Charlie Parlin, 84, died peacefully after a brief illness on October 28 in Florham Park, New Jersey; he had been in failing health for several years. Charlie was a long-time summer resident of Silver Bay, spending his first summer in 1938. The onset of WWII meant that few young men were able to EMP at the Bay, so in 1942, at the age of 14, he was head of the Association's Service Department. Charlie was a regular participant in the Mozart Singers. From 1971 to 1985 he was very active on the Association's Board, serving on both the executive and business committees. He was a partner in the NY law firm of Shearman & Sterling.

Charlie is survived by his sister Camilla Smith, brother Blackwood, sons Chris, Rob and Tim, 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, stepmother Kaye and stepsister Jeanne Chiang (all of whom continue to spend as much time as they can at Silver Bay). Chris and Tim will continue to maintain the property on Pudding Lane.

A memorial service is being planned for some time next summer at Silver Bay.

Gifts in Charlie's memory can be made to: The Campaign for Silver Bay, Silver Bay YMCA, 87 Silver Bay Road, Silver Bay, NY 12974.
