CHARLIE W. SMILEY

Funeral services for Charley W. Smiley, 68, resident of Laurel for 55 years, will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. from Sumrall Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. T. R. McKibbens, pastor of the deceased.

Interment will be in the Hickory Grove cemetery. Active pallbearers will be W. B. Rogers, Fred Winton, Bill Farve, Harry Smallwood, H. D. Wallace and J. N. Gibson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Brotherhood of the First Baptist church.

Mr. Smiley died Thursday morning at his home following an illness of 15 years. He was a retired chief clerk of the Illinois Central Railroad, where he had 33 years active service. He moved to Laurel from Clarke county at the age of 13 with his parents, the late John B. Smiley, remembered as a city policeman and a city commissioner, and Mrs. Smiley.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Leola Butler Smiley; two sons, C. W. Smiley, Jr., and Johnny Golden Smiley, Laurel; one daughter, Mrs. Alvin N. Cone, Memphis; one sister, Mrs. Nora S. Reddoch, Laurel; and three grandchildren, Charles Joseph Cone, John Sidney Cone and Sarah Ellis Cone.
