Funeral for Prominent Lower Johnston Farmer Is Held Tuesday With Burial In Lee-Johnson Cemetery

Dunn, Route 2, June 27.-- Funeral services for Cicero B. Johnson, well known and prosperous farmer of Meadow township who died at his home Monday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock were held on Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. The service was conducted by Elder Xure Lee of upper Sampson, assisted by Elder L. A. Johnson of Lower Johnston.

During the service, ``How Firm A Foundation'' and ``Jesus, Lover Of My Soul'' were sung by a select quartet.

Pallbearers included the following grandsons of the deceased: Delma Johnson of Smithfield; Howard, Dalion, Carrington Johnson, Brady and Alton Tart of this section. Honorary pallbearers were: D. H. Hood, Dr. M. L. Barefoot, J. H. Ballance, G. K. Grantham, Sr., R. L. Cromartie, Sr., W. P. Griffin, Geo. P. Lee, J. H. Smith, L. V. Parker, J. H. House, Jimmie Turlington, James E. Wilson, Preston Woodall, Charlie Johnson, J. M. Lawhon, David Godwin, Walter Jones, R. W. Pope, C. B. Aycock, Geo. F. Pope, L. B. Pope and Avery Baggett.

Flower girls were his granddaughters and great-granddaughters.

The body was laid to rest in the Lee-Johnson cemetery near the home. The grave was banked with a profusion of beautiful flowers, tokens from his many friends and relatives.

Mr. Johnson had been in ill health for the past year but his condition was not considered serious until a week prior to his death when general complications formed, causing his death.

All was done for him that kind friends, relatives and medical aid could do but God knew best and called him to be at home at rest. A beloved father and friend is gone but not forgotten.

Mr. Johnson who was 76 years of age was one of the the most highly esteemed citizens of this community. He was the son of the late Allen and Elizabeth Johnson. He was an active member of the Primitive Baptist church for a number of years and a leader in civic affairs of his community. Mr. Johnson was married January 30, 1879 to Serena Barefoot who preceded him in death four years ago. About five years ago Mr. and Mrs. Johnson celebrated their golden wedding.

Surviving are the following children: Mrs. E. F. Tart and Mrs. A. P. Blackmon, Dunn, Route 2; Mrs. Floyd Jernigan, Dunn, and Misses Effie and Meta Johnson who live at home; Junius, Anslow, Oscar, Atlas, Raymond, and Brazzel Johnson, all of this section. Thirty grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. J. Everett Jackson of Cooper, and a host of relatives and friends also survive.
