MRS. CLARA VARNELL

COLUMBIA (Special) -- Mrs. Clara Varnell, 76, of Columbia, died here yesterday after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today at the Fellowship Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Fellowship cemetery under the direction of Riser and Son Funeral Home of Columbia.

Mrs. Varnell is survived by two daughters, Mrs. E. B. Battaglia, Monroe; and Mrs. Joe Parker, Jonesboro; six sons, Frank and Doc of Columbia, Homer, Winnfield, Joe of Plaquemines, Jimmie, Monroe, and Bill of Pineville; a step-brother, Brad Nugent, Columbia; two step-sisters, Mrs. Ora Bell, Pineville and Bettie Cockerham, Monroe; 30 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
