Aged Ward Five Woman Succumbs

Mrs. Clara Gregory Rites To Be Friday

Mrs. Clara Gregory, 76, of ward five, died early this morning in a Columbia hospital. She was a sister of the late M. Lee Mecom, who was clerk of court for Caldwell parish for over 32 years.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist church with the Rev. J. D. Kitchingham, pastor of the Bethany Baptist church in charge, assisted by the Rev. A. R. Calhoun of Cory [sic Corey].

Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery under the direction of the Riser Funeral Home of Columbia.

She is survived by six sons, Jack D. Gregory of Columbia; Phillip Gregory, Harry Gregory and J. J. Gregory of ward 5, Tillman Gregory of Columbia Heights, Mecom Gregory of Winnfield; five daughters, Mrs. Flora Coates of Columbia, Mrs. Louise Wilson of Columbia Heights, Mrs. Edna Thompson of Amite, Miss Nita Gregory of Baton Rouge, Mrs. June Kidd of Baton Rouge; three brothers, Dr. Lonnie Mecom of Wisner, Ivy Mecom of Steer, Texas, and Phillip Mecom of Shreveport; one sister, Mrs. Maude Culpepper of Monroe, and 19 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

She was a sister of the late Lee Mecom, who served as clerk of court of Caldwell parish for 32 years, and Dr. Fred Mecom, who was director of the Caldwell parish Health Unit at the time of his death a few years ago. Her husband was the late Sam Gregory of ward five.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.
