Clarence R. Wallace, 73, NJ Transit superintendent

Clarence R. ``Wally'' Wallace, 73, of Upper Montclair died yesterday at home.

A Mass will be at 9:45 a.m. tomorrow in St. Philip the Apostle Church, Clifton, after the funeral from Shook's Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Ave., Cedar Grove.

A longtime employee of NJ Transit, Mr. Wallace most recently served as the superintendent of the New York Passenger Division in Hoboken before retiring in 1990. Earlier, his railroad career included working for Illinois Central, Erie Lackawana, Norfolk and Western, Derico and Conrail.

He was a graduate of The Spadee School of Criminology in New York City. He also attended the United States Maritime School of Engineering in St. Petersburg, Fla., and Southwest University in Delta, Miss.

Mr. Wallace was a Eucharistic minister at St. Philip the Apostle Church and a volunteer with the Bloomfield Athletic League.

Born in Baton Rouge, La., he lived in Summit, Miss., McComb, Miss., East Orange and Bloomfield before moving to Upper Montclair 16 years ago.

Surviving are his wife, Camille; a daughter, Dr. Elaine M. Wallace; a son, Wayne, and brothers, John Henry, Charles and Rudy.
