Clayton D. Marble
March 3, 1972 - January 20, 2013

Clayton Dale Marble, 40, born March 3, 1972, was called home to the Lord on January 20, 2013, after a six-month battle with cancer. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at 4-6PM at Wright & Ferguson (High Street) and Thursday, January 24, 2013, at 10AM at St. Andrews Episcopal Church (St. Francis Hall) with memorial service also at St. Andrews at 11AM.

Clayton was born in Jackson, MS, and grew up on the family farm he loved so dearly in Terry, MS. He attended K-12 at Hillcrest Christian School ('90), obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration, Marketing emphasis ('94) and a Master of Science, Marketing Management Technology ('95) both from Mississippi State University. He then obtained numerous licensures and certifications relevant to his area of expertise in business, marketing, and entrepreneurship in education, including his most proud accomplishment, the prestigious National Board Certified Teacher in Career and Technical Education.

Clay was a dedicated and hard worker who began employment with Jitney Jungle at an early age and continued with the company through graduation at MSU. While there he received employee of the year, a five year service pin, and was chosen to receive the company scholarship. Upon graduation he became an Adjunct Instructor at Mississippi University for Women, '96, taught as the Marketing & Education/DECA advisor for Lowndes County Schools, '96-'99, served as the Cooperative Education Teacher and DECA advisor at Olive Branch High School, '99-'09, and as Marketing Management Technology Adjunct Instructor for Northwest MS Community College, '01-'09. Clayton returned home to Terry to help his mother with the family farm upon his father's death in 2008. He was blessed with the opportunity to educate and mentor the youth he loved so dearly as DECA/Business Education Instructor and Senior Class Co-Sponsor of Callaway High School, '09-present. Clayton served as Adjunct Instructor at Hinds Community College Raymond Campus in the Business & Marketing Management Technology Department and as Co-Advisor for HCC Raymond DECA Chapter, '10-present.

Clayton was a gifted and talented educator as evidenced by his many honors, awards, and dedications including: Outstanding Educator Award for Jackson Public Schools ('12), MS Association of Marketing Educators District Advisor of the Year ('11) and State Advisor of the Year ('11), Mississippi DECA Honorary Life Member ('10), MS DECA Advisor of the Year ('10, '01), MS DECA District II Advisor of the Year ('10, '09, '01, '00), DeSoto County Schools District Teacher of the Year ('03), ACTE Region IV Outstanding New Teacher of the Year ('02), and MS Association of Marketing Educators Outstanding New Educator of the Year ('01).

Clayton enjoyed spending time with his family and friends-especially any activity involving his nieces and nephew, caring for his animals on the farm, restoring his '76 Cadillac, cooking, flea-marketing, camping, the beach, classical music and the Dave Matthews Band, photography, gardening, literature and world travel.

Clayton is survived by his mother, Frances Flynt Marble of Terry, his sister Andrea Marble-Barrett (Parker) and his nieces Gracie and Maggie of Cleveland, MS, his sister Melissa Marble Warrington of Duncan, MS, his nephew Zack, his beloved friend Wendie Woods of Starkville, MS, and uncle, aunts and cousins: Bob and Gloria Marble, Blair Marble, Alana Brook Marble, Renee Marble and Hartman Marble, all of Terry, MS; Ann Marble Simmons of Clinton; MS, Eliska Powers Counts (Jimmy), Riley and Caden of Westlake, LA; Jamie Sutherland (Shannon) and Chase Morgan of Sulphur, LA; Greg Dukes (Michele), Emily and Lauren of Olive Branch, MS; Shawna Dukes of New Orleans; Otis Sistrunk of Jackson, MS; Jody Sistrunk (JoAnn) of Terry, MS; Cindy Sistrunk Knox (Craigin), Nathan and Ryan of Clinton, MS.

Clayton was preceded in death by his father Kenneth Edwin Marble, Dr. James M. Marble, James Blair Marble, Thelma Grace Bazoon Marble, and Joyce Marble, all of Terry, MS; Sylvia Marble Sistrunk of Jackson, MS; Charlene Marble Halverson of Westlake, LA; Jerod Powers of Sulphur, LA; Terry Ray Simmons and Sidney Simmons of Westlake, LA; Myrtle Hilda Barnes Flynt and Clyde John “Happy” Flynt, Dorothy Flynt Dukes (Jack), Dawn Dukes Lee, and Kevin Dukes, all of Jackson, MS; and Christopher Dukes of New Orleans.
