G. C. Underwood, 58, Succumbs; Rites Saturday
Clayton G. Underwood, 58, of Winnfield, died Friday, August 4, 1972 at 2 a.m.
in a Ruston Hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church with
Rev. Calvin Phelps officiating. Burial was in the Garden of Memories
Cemetery. Southern Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
A native of Sikes, Mr. Underwood was a member of the Baptist Church and was
employed by Gresham Motor Co., in Winnfield.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Nina Underwood of Jonesboro; one son,
Phillip Underwood of Jonesboro; one daughter, Mrs. Mickey Simmons of
Winnfield; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Underwood, Sr., of Sikes; six brothers,
Billy Underwood of Jonesboro, Lee Underwood, Jr., and Carl Underwood, both of
Sikes; Charles Underwood of Shreveport; Paul Underwood of Memphis, Tenn.; and
Clarence Underwood of Fort Worth, Tex.; four sisters, Mrs. Freddie Kidd of
Shreveport, Mrs. Faye Gregory of Monroe, Mrs. Dee Cox of Tallulah, and Mrs.
Nick Mathoudis of Astoria, New York; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers included Don Walsh, Ernie Bamburgh, Cary Pardue, Edwin Gaar, Buddy
Thompson, James C. Taylor, Ronnie Gresham, and Bluch Haddox.
