He was born on Oct. 23, 1924, in Bay Springs. He was married to his loving wife, Katie M. Rayner, for 64 years. They have raised five children together -- three sons and two daughters. They have 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
They spent the early years of their marriage living in Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, North Carolina, Mississippi and Florida while he built bridges from the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. After becoming superintendent of the company he worked with for 25 years, he retired and moved home to Bay Springs, where he spent the next 10 years working for Georgia Pacific during the day maintaining heavy-duty equipment and the rest of his time taking care of his family, his farm and his cows.
He always enjoyed working hard and loved being outdoors, but most of all, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was greatly respected, loved and adored by his family.
