McDonald

C.B. “Doc” retired dentist, longtime OKC resident and avid OU football supporter died Friday at Mercy Hospital. Born in 1902 in Winfield [sic Winnfield], LA to Allie and Henry McDonald. He graduated dental school at Emory University and practiced in Wynnewood until 1940 and then for 25 years at 1201 Liberty Bank Building in OKC.

He received three certificates for work during the war from President Roosevelt, President Truman and the U.S. Congress. He was an organizer of the O.U. Touchdown Club and helped recruit some of OU's football stars during the late 40's and early 50's. He was twice president of G.O.L.F. Inc., and helped bring the first major PGA tournament to OKC at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club. He chaired the Oklahoma Jamboree for 10 years. In 1965 he became the dentist for the Caribbean Islands of St. Maarten, Saba and Stacia. He returned to retire in OKC in 1975 and married Vida McDonald in 1981.

He was preceded in death by his son Douglas and daughter, Betty McDonald Downing; his sister, Edna Hines of Lake Charles, LA. He is survived in OKC by his wife, Vida, his grandchildren, Marca Downing Floyd, Debby Downing Goodman, and Jim Downing II, and his great grandchildren, Allison and Ryan Floyd and Tia and Todd Goodman. His Louisiana grandchildren include Tommy, Jeff, Mary, Lizzie, Linnie, Winkie, Sandy, and Karen. We will all miss “Papa.” Graveside services pending at Bill Merritt Funeral Home.

Dr. Clyde B., 87, OKC passed away Dec. 1, 1989. A retired dentist. Graveside services 10am, Tuesday, Resurrection Cemetery.
