Dale Holderfield
HERBINE -- Dale Holderfield, 79, of the Herbine community (Cleveland County), died Wednesday at the Bradley County Medical Center at Warren.
He was born April 2, 1924, a son of the late James Dewey Holderfield and Bertie Mae Shelby Holderfield.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Helen Cash Holderfield, with whom he owned and operated Herbine Grocery, until her death in 1983.
He was a Baptist and served as a deacon for 37 years, first at Bethel No. 2 Missionary Baptist Church at Herbine and later at Pauline Baptist Church in Monticello, where he was a member the Sunday school Class. He was also a member of the Breakfast Club Group and the "Rison Bunch."
He served in the Army during World War II in the Philippines and New Guinea.
He retired after 35 years of service to the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Southeast Arkansas. He founded the Coca-Cola Retirees Group.
He served on the Rison School Board from 1964-1977.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Hank Johnson Holderfield; one son, Scotty Holderfield of Rison; one daughter, Betsy Reagan of Heber Springs (Cleburne County); two stepsons, Jim Morgan of Hot Springs and Randy Morgan of White Hall; three grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Bethel No. 2 Missionary Baptist Church on Highway 35 in Herbine with the Rev. Buddy Lemons and the Rev. Wade Totty officiating. Burial will be in Prosperity Cemetery.
