DUNN

DAMON C. DUNN, born May 2, 1926, Monroe, LA to Damon J. and Lillian Craft Dunn. One brother David J. Dunn.

Graduated from Ouachita Parish High School in 1943. Drafted in U.S. Army Aug. 30, 1944. Assigned to Co. A, 1st Platoon, 1st Squad, 26th Inf. Feb. 1, 1945. Wounded March 2, 1945 at Erp, Germany Hospitalized 217th General Hospital in France. Rejoined unit April 1945 and was with 1st Squad in Czechoslovakia when war ended. Served as guard in criminal wing of Palace of Justice at Nuremberg War Trials to May 1946. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, European Medal with two Battle Stars and Victory Medal. Discharged June 4, 1946 with rank sergeant. Recalled from inactive reserves September 17, 1950 and assigned to Korean Military Advisory Group, November 16, 1950. Attached to Republic of Korea I corps in Songjin, North Korea. Participated in evacuation of Hungnam, North Korea Christmas Eve 1950 the largest evacuation in U.S. Navy history 105,000 soldiers and 98,000 civilians. Also served with U.S. Eighth Army, 62nd Engr. Construction Bn. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Service Stars and Republic of Korean Presidential Unit Citation. Discharged July 5, 1951. Graduated from Northeast Louisiana University with BS Degree in 1953. Married Nell Dunn in 1954. Retired Humble, TX from Cameron Iron Works in 1985 with 32 years of service.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at 9:00 PM, in the Brookside Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow Brookside Memorial Park.
