LTC DANIEL R. WALLEY, SR.

LTC Daniel R. Walley, Sr. 76, Died on Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, June 10, 2004 at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel. Burial in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Laurel. Rev. Jeff Shannon will officiate.

He was a member of Ellisville United Methodist Church, an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved J.C.J.C. Basketball.

He was born February 26, 1928 in Sandhill, MS. Colonel Walley served 27 years in the U.S. Army, including two tours in Korea, one tour in Vietnam, with station including France, Germany, Turkey, Iran, and Japan. He was a charter member of M.O.A.A. (Retired Military Association) He received numerous medals in the military.

After his service in the Army, he served as Administrator Assistant to Bill Patrick, Mayor city of Laurel. He also served as Personnel Director for Southern District Transportation Commissioners, Robert Joiner and Ronnie Shows. Colonel Walley attended Jones County Junior College and University of Southern Miss.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Murdoc and Ethel McEachren Walley, Sisters: Jessie Bell Walley, Aileen Ball, Margaret Smith and Marie Studdard. Brothers: Wallace Walley and Hurbert Walley.

Colonel Walley is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years: Jonell Walley of Ellisville, MS. Son and Daughter in law: Dan Walley, Jr. and Wife Julia Walley of Flora, MS. Two Daughters and Sons in law: Donna & Mickey King of Hattiesburg, MS. Susan & Marty Brandt of Ellisville, MS. Sister: Merle Courtney of Thomasville, GA. Grandchildren: Joshua Lilly, Jeremy Lilly, Blake Walley, Chase Johnson and Jonathan Johnson.

The family request memorials to be made to: Scholarship Fund-Ellisville United Methodist Church, Post Office Box 59, Ellisville, MS 39437.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM Wednesday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, which is in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers will be: Charles Sumrall, A.J. Cooley, Paul Johnson, Dyal Wayne Walley, Dennis Smith and John Courtney.
