Dr. Darryl E. Kinnison, teacher of business, Civil War authority
Dr. Darryl E. Kinnison, a business teacher, died Friday in Mobile. He was 50.
Kinnison, a native of Mobile, had been a resident of Westwood, Calif., for 27 years before recently moving back to Mobile.
He was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, where he received a bachelor of science degree. He received master's degrees from Sacramento State University in Sacramento, Calif., and Chico State University in Chico, Calif. He received his doctorate degree from Colorado State University.
Kinnison taught business at Westwood High School in California and at Lassen Community College for 23 years.
He was a member of Chester Community United Methodist Church of Chester, Calif.
He was a past master of the Westwood F&AM Lodge 501. He was also a member of York Rite Bodies. He was a member of Ben Ali Shrine in Sacramento.
Kinnison was a published authority on Civil War swords. He was also credited with the initiation of the Lassen County Vocational Olympics, which will be dedicated in his name this spring.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Custer Kinnison of Mobile; one daughter, Ginny McLean Hughes of Birmingham; parents, Albert E. and Opal Kinnison of Mobile; one sister, Sharmein K. Moser of Mobile; and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Radney Funeral Home. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. Monday. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
