Child's Rites on Wednesday
A three-year-old boy died at Frederick Memorial Hospital at 10:15 o'clock Monday morning from the effects of an abdominal wound, caused by the accidental discharge of a .32-calibre pistol late Sunday afternoon. The child was David Gale Warrenfeltz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul M. Warrenfeltz, 319-G DeBoy avenue, Baltimore, and the mishap occurred at the home of his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Foster M. Warrenfeltz, near Woodsboro.
Unattended at the moment, the child was thought to have been playing with a five-year-old brother. Members of the family heard the sound of a shot and from their observations concluded that the youngster had obtained the revolver from the lower drawer of a living room desk.
Had Cap Pistol
The mother later said she supposed he thought it was a cap pistol. “He has them at home,” she added.
The bullet entered the child's abdomen. Rushed to the hospital here immediately after the mishap occurred about 5:15 p.m., the little patient failed to rally and death occurred shortly after 10 o'clock Monday morning.
Investigation was conducted by State Police Sgt. W. W. Corbin and Trooper 1/c James H. Rouzee, Jr. The Medical Examiner later returned a verdict of accidental death by shooting and the investigation was marked closed by the State Police.
In addition to the parents and paternal grandparents, survivors include the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wood E. Lanier, of Monroe, La.; two brothers, Paul, Jr., and Donald, and a sister, Joyce Eileen Warrenfeltz. Also surviving are the maternal great-grandfather, Wood E. Lanier, Sr., Monroe, La., and the paternal great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Steiner Ramsburg, this city.
The body is at the funeral home in Walkersville, where friends may call. Services will be conducted there Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock. Interment will be in Mt. Hope cemetery, Woodsboro. G. C. Barton, funeral director, has charge of arrangements.
