FORT WORTH -- David H. Gunby, 58, a retired electrical engineer, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001 at a local hospital.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at Laurel Land Funeral Home.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camp Reynal National Kidney Foundation of North Texas, 3530 Forest Lane, Suite 105, Dallas, Texas 75234.
David was born April 14, 1943 in Dallas to Grace Evans and Howard David Gunby. His grandfather, Howard Fletcher Gunby became the father figure in his life. He graduated from North Dallas High School in 1962 and received his electrical engineering degree in August 1968 from the University of Texas at Austin. On Aug. 1, 1966, he became part of Texas history. The American public was introduced to mass murder when the sniper opened fire from the UT Tower. David was one of his first victims. It was discovered at that time he only had one kidney and it had bullet fragments in it. As a result, his experience with hemodialysis began on Oct. 1, 1974. He moved to Fort Worth in October 1977 and was employed by General Dynamics in the avionics department until the lay-offs of 1991. David was a very bright gentleman with a unique sense of humor and wit, which he maintained though his life's many trials and tribulations. His desire to learn never ceased. He should be an inspiration to anyone involved in or receiving dialysis. Thanks to Dialysis Associates for their many years of care. Special thanks to Dr.'s Charles Andrews, Richard Mauk and Doug Myers who were his primary nephrologists over the years. Also, to Dr. Hector Yanes for the vascular access support he gave David. Thanks to Linda Minhinnette, the charge nurse at his outpatient facility since 1992, and to all the dialysis staff for their friendship and care. David, ``May you rest in peace surrounded by angels. We will find comfort in our memories and our good fortune to have been a part of your life.''
