Two Teen-Agers Killed, One Injured In Car Wreck

Funeral services for two teenagers who were killed in an auto accident last Friday morning on Highway 80 West were held over the weekend.

Killed in the accident were Don R. Weems, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tracy Weems, and David Pope, 15, son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Pope. Another teen-ager, John Sinquefield, 16, was injured in the accident and was hospitalized in a Vicksburg hospital. According to reports Wednesday of this week he was getting along fine.

According to reports the three teenagers were in the Weems boys fathers 1957 model auto when the accident occurred at about 10:10 a.m. last Friday. Young Weems was driving the car at the time and the Pope youngster was in the front seat with him at the time of the accident. Young Sinquefield was in the back alone. Both Weems and Pope were reported to have been killed immediately, while the Sinquefield youngster was hospitalized.

Weems, father, Tracy Weems is employed by the Soil Conservation Service here and is scheduled to receive a Bachelor of Science degree at Northwestern State College on August 2.

Pope was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Pope of Willow Bayou, just outside Tallulah.

Services for young Weems were held at the Methodist Church at 2:30 p.m. last Saturday with the Rev. Wilson Watson officiating. Burial followed in the Forest Cemetery in West Carroll Parish under the direction of Crothers Funeral Home.

Survivors include his parent Mr. and Mrs. Tracy Weems, Tallulah; one brother, Sammy Weems, Tallulah; one sister, Sue Weems, a Student at La. Tech; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Nettie Hemphill, Darnell.

Pallbearers were J. C. Gipson, James Reeves, Joseph Ragus, Billy Ragus, Bernon Hemphill and Marion Waller.

Services for the Pope youngster was held this past Sunday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. W. T. Miller officiating assisted out by the Rev. Oster Daniels. Burial followed in Silver Cross Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home.

Survivors include his parents Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Pope; one brother, Jerry Wayne; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hershell Machen, Winnfield; and his paternal grandmother Mrs. J. M. Pope of Tallulah.

Pallbearers were, Bob Gardsbane, Stuart Sprague, Ronnie Alexandria, Danny Watson, Lynn Vanderhoogt, Buster Erwin, Don Morgan, Artie Bray, Ed Lee, and Donald Rich.
