Walt Miller Succumbs At His Home Near Here
Last Rites Held at Union Church Near Joyce Saturday
Funeral services for D. W. Miller, a life time resident of Winnfield, were conducted Saturday, May 27, at Union Baptist Church near Joyce, by Rev. J. A. McMurry, assisted by Rev. J. A. Cockerham.
Mr. Miller was born February 7, 1880 in Winn Parish where he lived and worked during the course of his lifetime. In 1902 he was married to Miss Lizzie Beard and to them were born ten children all of whom are still living. He was a member of the Union Baptist Church for many years.
Mr. Miller had been in ill health for several years, although his death came suddenly Thursday night, May 25, 1939.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lizzie Beard Miller; five sons, Lawson of Henderson, Texas; David, Jack, Walter, and Dick of Winnfield; five daughters, Mrs. H. A. Lane of Monroe; Mrs. J. C. Whisenant, Shreveport; Mrs. C. I. Parker, Rose and Pearl, of Winnfield; his mother, Mrs. D. C. Miller of Winnfield; four sisters, Mrs. Mary C. Parsons, Mrs. Docia Porter, of Winnfield, Mrs. L. J. Moore, Mrs. Charles L. Meyer of Chicago, Ill.; one brother, R. R. Miller of Haynesville; nine grandchildren and a host of friends.
Pallbearers were sons and sons in law of the deceased. Among them were Lawson, David, Jack, Walter, and Dick Miller, all sons of the deceased; and H. A. Lane, J. C. Whisenant, C. I. Parker, sons in law of the deceased.
