David Gibson

HARRISONBURG -- Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today for David Wana Gibson, 85, of Harrisonburg, in Harrisonburg Baptist Church with the Rev. Jesse Watkins officiating.

Burial was in Harrisonburg Cemetery under direction of Young's Funeral Home of Jonesville.

He died Wednesday at Rapides General Hospital in Alexandria after a long illness.

Mr. Gibson was a lifelong resident of Catahoula Parish and a member of the Harrisonburg Baptist Church. He was a World War I veteran and was elected district attorney of the Seventh Judicial District in 1948. He retired after 18 years of service. He was a member of the Bar Association for 60 years. He attended Louisiana Tech and LSU.

Survivors include seven daughters, Mrs. Wana Ann Fort of Rhodesia, Africa, Mrs. Marjorie Dale Sharp of Alexandria, Mrs. Jane Shannon Noonan of Walnut Creek, Calif., Mrs. Polly Hamilton of Tulsa, Okla., Mrs. Ora Leland Mills and Mrs. Rose Katherine Ellzey, both of Baton Rouge and Mrs. Evelyn McDonald of Greenville, S.C.; one sister, Miss Lallie Gibson of Pineville; numerous nieces and nephews; and 24 grandchildren.
