Strickland Services Wednesday

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday for Monroe dentist and Masonic leader Dr. Dee A. Strickland in the Scottish Rite Temple Collegetown Lodge 465.

The Rev. Wayne W. Gray will officiate.

Masonic graveside services will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Monroe, by the Grand Lodge of the State of Louisiana.

Burial will follow the Masonic services at the cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick's Funeral Home of Monroe.

Dr. Strickland died early Monday after suffering an apparent heart attack in his home at 2016 Island Drive.

The 74-year old Harrisonburg native and resident of Monroe since 1935, was nationally known in Masonic circles.

He received his D.D.S. degree from Tulane University in 1928 and he practiced dentistry at Logansport until he came to Monroe where he practiced his profession until his retirement.

Dr. Strickland served as Grand Master of Masons in Louisiana in 1941. From 1959 until his death he served as Sovereign Grand Inspector General in Louisiana for the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.

He was a member of the Collegetown Lodge and Western Star Lodge in Monroe and he was a member of the York Rite and Scottish Rite bodies in Monroe. He was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Shrine, and the St. Paul's Methodist Church, Monroe.

He was also a World War II Navy veteran.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Jean Hebert Strickland, Monroe; a son, D. A. Strickland Jr., New Orleans, a daughter, Mandye Jean Strickland, Reno, Nev.; a brother, I. C. Strickland, Monroe.

The body will be in the Scottish Rite Temple Collegetown Lodge until service time.

Pallbearers will be Admiral Eugene A. Barham, Junius B. Sharp, John F. Arnold, Dr. Calvin B. Folds, John E. Coon, D. W. Jessen, Elmer I. Gibson and Latme L. Brewton Sr.

The family request memorial gifts be made to the Masonic Home Education Foundation in Alexandria.
