Della Medlin

The family of Della Medlin requests that you join us in a celebration of her life as she journeys to be with her Lord and those loved ones who have gone before her. Della was finally freed from a six year bout with Alzheimer's disease on June 14, 2004. She passed on in Hospice Homeplace surrounded by loved ones and a caring staff.

Della was born March 21, 1914 in DeQueen, Arkansas, to John Walter and Mary Lorena Williams. She married Aubrey Odell Medlin in September, 1935. They spent 61 years together and had six children: Alvin Medlin, Joyce Harris, Kenneth Medlin, James Medlin, Donna VanGorp, and Mick Medlin. She is survived by these six children, twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Della is also survived by a twin sister, Stella Davidson, of Odessa.

Della was a strong woman with the kindest of hearts. She put her own needs aside to meet the needs of others. She was very active in the lives of her children and grandchildren and devoted many days to their care. Della enjoyed quilting. One of her last projects to complete before she came ill was a hand made quilt for each of her children.

Services for Della will be under the direction of Beaty Funeral Home, Hawkins, and held at Liberty Baptist Church in Hawkins, on Friday, June 18 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. David Franklin officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Randy Medlin, Steve Medlin, Chad Medlin, Brad Medlin, Cade Medlin and Cody VanGorp. Honorary pallbearers will be Lee Loughmiller, Brad Jones, Todd Ratliff, Brad Driesen, Scott Spence, Rodney Spence and Dan Spence. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, 6 to 8p.m.
