Dennis Shell
Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield
Funeral services for Dennis Shell will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 15, 2007, in the First United Methodist Church of Winnfield with the Reverend Mark Goins officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home on Wednesday, November 14, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday at the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
Mr. Shell was born June 12, 1920, in Winnfield, Louisiana, and died Monday, November 12, in Winn Parish Medical Ceter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dudley Floyd and Della Peters Shell; his twin brother, Denton Shell; and his sister, Doris Shell.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Sara Jackson Shell; his daughters Fran Walton and Jan Beville; four grandchildren, Matt Walton of Winnfield; Sara Crossland of El Dorado, Arkansas; Denise Brown of Huntsville, Alabama; and Jared Beville of Bossier City; five great-grandchildren, Sydney Jeanne and Jackson Crossland, Virginia and Benjamin Brown, and Thomas Walton; his sister, Dorothy Shell, and his brother, Dudley P. Shell.
Mr. Shell was graduated from Winnfield High School and attended Louisiana Tech until he joined the United States Air Force; he was stationed on the Island of Guam during World War II. He was owner and editor of the Winnfield News American newspaper, bookkeeper for Brewton Hardware and Brewton Butane, and a life and health insurance agent from 1967 until his retirement.
Mr. Shell was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Wesley Young Adults Sunday School Class, United Methodist Men, Gideons International, the Lions Club, and the Azalea Drive Husbands' Association. He was a 32nd Degree mason and a member of the Eastern Star Lodge No. 151 F&AM.
